This spring, TGV are launching two new 6 month long programs - Story Hub and Inspire.
Would you like to attend a series of storytelling workshops?
You will learn how to shape personal narratives in a variety of short forms, with audio, visual and textual components. Narratives may take the form of short stories, poems, digital stories (with video or images from personal collections) or art work, with accompanying artist’s statement. With attention to who are our audiences, we will experiment with tone and voice to make stories that both entertain and influence. We will explore alternate structures, including linear narratives with beginning, middle and end, and episodic and fragmented forms.
With facilitation led by TGV staff, a basic kit of creative materials including a work book of story prompts will be supplied to every participant. You'll be set creative challenges to complete in the workshop and in between sessions, and there will be opportunity to share work in progress at every session. New folks can join anytime.
Workshops will take place once per month for 2-3 hours, over a period of 6 months. You can attend either face-to-face or virtually. These sessions will not be hybrid; they will run at different times with repeated content, so if you're really keen, you can attend both!
A guest speaker will be scheduled monthly, accommodating their preference for virtual or face-to-face.
The last 2 sessions will focus on finalising stories or creative works for TDOV 2025, when we will invite audiences of peers, friends and allies to an exhibition, virtual gallery and performance event hosted by TGV.
If you're interested in getting involved in Story Hub, for all the sessions or just a few, please express your interest here.
Are you gender-diverse and under 21? Would you like to be involved in TGV’s first youth connection program over the next 6 months?
‘Inspire’ will be held on a Saturday or Sunday in Naarm/Melbourne, once per month. On this day, you will be attending a cultural event or LGBTQI+ program, and exploring what it means to engage with and participate actively in social spaces as a TGD person. Activities will range from a day at the theatre, a zoo adventure, catching a flick at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival and attending Midsumma. The program culminates in a 3 day camp where participants will reflect on how they’ve grown into their power and workshop their goals and plans for the future.
We are looking for 20 young people aged 15-20 who are interested in being inspiring leaders for their peers. This program is open for participants across the state, and all event tickets, catering, transport, and costs of camp are covered. You are welcome to attend with a family member or carer, and some sessions will actively engage with these people as TGD youth champions.
Dates are not locked in yet, but you will need to be able to attend 80% of the sessions and they start in October.
Please fill in your expression of interest form here.
We are excited to be introducing new initiatives and programming, having designed these around the diverse needs of our many intersecting, and intersectional communities and people across the state. We have been listening to what you would like more of and ways to engage in being the best that we can be. If you'd like to follow along, keep a look out for our upcoming newsletter where we will keep you all updated.
