As Transgender Victoria (TGV) approaches its twenty-fifth anniversary, we reflect on our evolution from a small volunteer group advocating for transgender human rights to a leading advocacy and service organisation. TGV remains committed to continuous improvement and cultural renewal to ensure we reflect and align with the diverse and intersectional needs of our communities.
To facilitate this ongoing growth, we have seen recent changes within our committee. After years of dedicated service, our Chair, Rochelle Pattison, has stepped down. Rochelle’s leadership, initially as Treasurer and then as Chair, has been instrumental in our success. Maya Agarwal will serve as Interim Chair. Maya comes to us with experience in LGBTQIA+ & BPOC community engagement and an unwavering commitment to advocating for transgender rights. We are actively recruiting a long-term Chair to continue this vital work.
Michelle McNamara, who has served as Treasurer for the past three years, will transition her responsibilities to Benjie Norman and focus on her role as Advocacy Lead and Interim Secretary. Benjie brings a wealth of experience in financial leadership, business strategy, and non-executive director positions to the Committee, making her well-qualified for the treasurer's role.
Reflecting on her tenure, Rochelle Pattison said:
“The challenges evolving from a primarily advocacy organization to a more services-oriented approach over the past three years have been significant. A crucial stage was achieved this year with the opening of Affirmation Station, and it is a good time for me to step aside and let others shape the future of TGV.”
Since late last year, our staff and Board have been diligently developing a strategic plan to guide our efforts and impact for the next four years.
We invite you to join TGV during this dynamic period of growth and transformation. Whether as a volunteer, prospective Board member, TGV member, or monthly donor, your involvement is invaluable.
We also encourage you to subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed and engaged with our community, events, programs, and initiatives.
