Birth Certificate Reform is here!

Victorian Birth Certificate reform, passed in Parliament last August, comes into effect today on Friday the 1st of May and we couldn’t be more excited!

This marks an important step forward in ensuring greater equity for trans and gender diverse Victorians. The new reform means trans and gender diverse people in Victoria can now access identity documents that are accurate and up to date more easily.

Previous requirements to disclose medical information such as prior surgeries and medical histories were often invasive, and inconsistent with other jurisdictions.

We’re thrilled to see this reform bringing Victoria in line with current standards in other parts of Australia and other regions, and improving the lives of trans and gender diverse people in our state.
