My personal pride journey originated in Shepparton. There was very little exposure to overt queer people or establishments, which led me to move to Melbourne and seek out those experiences through university and the city. In reality this opened my eyes to the subtler everyday pride embodied by the LGBTQ folks of my hometown, and upon returning as an adult, I developed a renewed love and pride for Shepp. I found I could connect to my queer community through clothing, as our bodies are never considered in industrial clothing manufacture. I aim to help people explore their gender identity with a more personal approach to dressing, so I chose a handmade outfit to wear in my portrait.
